Pagsasabuhay Conference officially starts the Program
MANILA, PHILIPPINES- The Pagsasabuhay Conference had started the program on May 25, 2019 at around 8 o’clock in the morning held at 5th Floor Prajna Hall.
The conference was attended by honorable guests from BLIA members, Venerable Miao Jing- Head Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Mabuhay Temple, Dr. Helen Correa-Guang Ming College President, Venerable Zhi Yi- Director of Life Education Center, Michael Tan-Keynote Speaker together with the faculty, staff and students from Guang Ming College and Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA).
The program started with a community ritual performed by both Performing Arts students of Guang Ming College and Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) and was led by Joseph Keith Anicoche, PHSA coordinator. The Plenary session was divided into two parts- the panel of Mr. Paul Morales, Performing Arts Director and Ms. Teresa Jamias, PHSA coordinator.
The program also included the performances of Guang Ming Dance Project and Guang Ming Harmonies. The performances that they performed were Vast Star and Cloud, Ru lai and Prelude. The certificate of appreciation was awarded by Venerable Miao Xin, Conference Director to Guang Ming College, Chair of the Panels of the Plenary Session as well as the Presenters.
“This creative works are not just an act, not just a show but a very presentation of who we are as a human being” Venerable Miao Xin said in her opening remarks.
Students from Philippine High School for the Arts join the Meditation Workshop
May 25, 2019- Meditation Workshop was held at Dance Studio at around one o’clock in the afternoon.
The workshop was conducted by Ms. Terrie Martinez, Planning and Organizing Adviser with the help of the conference organizing team. There are 27 students from Guang Ming College and Philippine High School for the Arts who participated in the said workshop. The first part of the workshop was the meditation exercises followed by sitting meditation. The workshop ended with the sharing of insights and reflections from the students in their experiences and important messages from Ms. Terrie Martinez.
“The importance of doing meditation is to watch your mind and to observe your mind” said Ms. Terrie Martinez. “ Buddhism is not something religious but it is something that encourage the person to reach the utmost potential and to better oneself” she added.
“It’s a refreshment for me since I came from a stressful way. It helps me to focus and it’s nice because it is sociable.” said Cheechu Almendras, a Grade 10 student of Philippine High School for the Arts in an interview.
Philippine High School for the Arts and Guang Ming College collaborate for the Student Workshop Exchange
GUANG MING COLLEGE- Student’s workshop exchange was participated by both Philippine High School for the Arts and Guang Ming College Performing Arts students. This was held on May 24, 2019 at around two o’clock in the afternoon in 7th Floor Dance Studio.
The first part of the workshop was conducted by the students of Philippine High School for the Arts. Each of the students shared their “baon” or “dala”, house rules or “kasunduan” for the workshop. The “baon” or “dala” that they had shared was their willingness to learn, positivity and good vibes, presence, and perseverance towards the workshop.
Some of the important topics that were discussed and taught in the workshop were the types of the Stages, Stage measurements, and etc.
Philippine High School for the Arts coordinators lead the Teacher’s Training Workshop Exchange
May 25, 2019- Joseph Keith Anicoche and Ms. Teresa Jamias conducted a teacher’s training exchange workshop in 5th Floor Star and Cloud Theater at around two o’clock in the afternoon.
The said workshop was attended by teachers and students from Philippine for the Arts and Guang Ming College Performing Arts students. The workshop included the discussion about the elements of performance, performance-making, and acting devices.
